Frequently asked questions
Will my sex drive change? Most patients in the first two years will have a decrease in their sex drive. A select few say their sex drive increases.
Can I get pregnant and have children after this surgery?Yes, barring other fertility problems. It is recommended that patients wait at least one year after the operation to get pregnant.
Why do some patients experience depression after surgery?Depression following surgery is mostly due to unrealistic expectations of the outcome of the operation. The support group meetings can help patients through these difficult times. Occasionally patients will need psychiatric consultations.
Will I need a second operation? Not necessarily. Rarely, second operations may be necessary because of complications. However, most patients' second operations are reconstructive.
How do you work with out of state patients (hotel, flights, etc.)?Flight and lodging are the responsibility of the patients. You may want to bring a family member or friend to help you but it is not absolutely necessary.
If patients come from out of the area, how long do they need to stay?Approximately two weeks, including the hospital stay.
