Free pediatric therapy screenings
Are you concerned about your child's development? The Sanford Health pediatric therapies department offers free occupational, physical and speech screenings for children.
Occupational therapy free screenings
Areas screened include:
Fine motor skills: Does your child have difficulty with writing, cutting or grasping? Does your child have trouble with eye-hand coordination, like throwing and catching a ball?
Self-help skills: Does your child dress, toilet and groom him or herself like other children of the same age? Is your child able to feed him or herself using utensils like other children the same age?
Visual perceptual/motor skills: Does your child have difficulty identifying colors, shapes or completing visual games like puzzles?
Sensory system: Is your child fearful of movements or heights? Does your child avoid certain smells, tastes or feel of clothing?
Physical therapy free screenings
Areas screened include:
Gross motor skills: Does your child roll, sit, crawl, walk, run and climb like other children of the same age? Does your child often trip and fall?
Walking pattern: Does your child walk on his or her tiptoes? Do your child's feet turn inward or outward too much when walking?
Posture: Does your child have scoliosis or a curve of the spine? Do your child's knees knock together?
Foot position: Does your child have flat feet?
Speech therapy free screenings
Areas screened include:
Speech and language: Is your child's speech understood by others? Does your child talk like other children of the same age?
Stuttering: Does your child have difficulty getting words out? Does your child repeat sounds when saying a word?
Swallowing: Does your child cough or choke when eating or drinking?
Voice: Does your child sound hoarse or stuffed up?
