Sanford Health Celebrates National Rural Health Day
Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013

Recognition for National Rural Health Day and “Celebrating the Power of Rural” will take place in every state on or around Nov. 21. Sanford Health is now the largest, rural, not-for-profit health care system in the nation with locations in 126 communities in nine states.

Rural hospitals and healthcare practices are the economic foundation of their communities. In addition to typically being the largest employers, these providers strengthen the economic health of their communities by ensuring a healthy workforce.

Rural communities are locations where physician assistants, nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, dental hygienists, licensed social workers and other practitioners have the unique opportunity to establish their own practices and provide quality healthcare services.

Rural health-specific education and training programs give many providers a unique chance to “come home” and serve the communities in which they grew up.

National Rural Health Day was created in 2011 as a way to showcase rural America and increase awareness of rural health-related issues. National Rural Health Day gives its partners the opportunity to ‘Celebrate the Power of Rural’ and tout the good works being performed by America’s 59.5 million rural citizens.

“We appreciate the role that rural health care providers play in bringing local access to vital primary care services, in addition to the positive economic contributions they make to their local communities. Ordinary people willing to step forward, share and implement vision, and drive changes that benefit their neighbors,” Jesse Tischer, COO Sanford Health Network.

Additional National Rural Health Day information is available at celebratepowerofrural.org.
