Amber's Dream

Amber Des Roches was just 15 years old when leukemia took her life in the days preceding Christmas, 2007. In time, and despite unbearable grief and sorrow, Amber's family couldn't help but remember how the teenager often talked about transforming the Children's Hospital at Sanford Medical Center. When she wasn't telling someone what she envisioned for the children who would be hospitalized after her, she penciled her thoughts in her journal. Captivated by her favorite book, Peter Pan, Amber knew that Sanford Children's Hospital could be a place where fears were eliminated and pain diminished through the power of distraction.

There are many opportunities for you to support the Sanford College of Nursing.

These are some easy ways to give:

• Check: Write a check out to the Sanford Health Foundation. In the memo section, write "Sanford College of Nursing." Send it to PO Box 5525 Bismarck, ND 58506-5525.
• Online: Click here to make an online donation.
• Gift of stocks and securities: The easiest method of achieving the transfer of stock ownership is to notify your broker that you wish to transfer the stock to the Sanford Health Foundation. Have your broker contact Kristi Schmidt in the Sanford Health Foundation at (701) 323-8457 to ensure you receive all available tax advantages.
• Memorials: These are heartfelt ways to honor the memory of someone in our lives and can be given in sympathy or remembrance.
• Honorariums: These gifts can be given in honor of a special person or to honor a class or a significant occasion in your life.
• Will: Leave the Sanford College of Nursing in your will.

Diabetes Camp

Counselor-in-training Kalyn Omlid gave Sam Kraft a hug at Camp Sioux, a weeklong camp for children with diabetes.

In 2010, Bismarck third-grader Sam Kraft was able to attend Camp Sioux held at Park River Bible Camp near Grand Forks, due to the generosity of an anonymous donor who paid his $150 attendance fee. The camp helps children of all ages, diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, better control the symptoms of their disease while enjoying traditional camp activities supervised by counselors and junior counselors who provided critical care for them day and night. Most of the staff members also have the disease. “When we saw how organized and professional camp registration was, we were immediately calmed. As parents of a child with diabetes, you never stop being concerned about them. You are always checking on them, worrying about them. For this one week, we did not have to worry,” said Lisa, Sam’s mom.

Frequent doctor visits, special medications and occasional hospitalizations all the result of diabetes often take a toll on family budgets. For many of them, camp would not be possible without the gift of campership fees. Will you consider donating a campership fee so that another little boy or girl can attend camp this summer?

Employee Emergency Fund

The purpose of the Employee Emergency Fund is to help associates who are experiencing sudden, emergent and catastrophic financial difficulties. Emergent is defined as an unforeseen, unpredictable incident requiring immediate action.

Garden of Peace

Thanks to generous donors, Sanford Health offers a place of solitude for those tiny babies lost either before or after birth. This final resting place, named Garden of Peace, is located on a beautiful bluff at the southwest corner of Fairview Cemetery and is landscaped to provide a final resting place for these tender, tiny souls. The Garden is a project of Sanford Health's Infant Bereavement Program.

Giving to the Foundation helps ensure that Sanford Health will be ready and able to provide quality healthcare to the residents of our service area. Through the fundraising work of the Foundation, Sanford Health can better face the following challenges of the healthcare business:
