ActiveArm and ActiveLeg program
Frequently asked questions
ActiveArm and ActiveLeg stimulate muscles through repetitive electrode pulses. The electrodes deliver electric pulses directly to the muscles through a computer that has been programmed to give the right amount of stimulation to the arm or leg.
Lightweight and easy to use, ActiveLeg uses a small sensor to detect when the patient’s heel hits the ground. It signals a nerve stimulator wrapped around the leg just below the knee, which contracts the muscles that pull up the foot. The result is increased stability and a more natural step, decreasing the effects of foot drop.
ActiveArm works in a similar way, using electrodes inside a custom-fitted brace on the lower arm to stimulate and activate the hand. With regular treatment, ActiveArm patients have seen increased movement, including the ability to grasp and release objects such as hairbrushes and drinking glasses and some were even able to feed themselves.
ActiveArm works to stimulate and reactivate the hand. Benefits may include:

You are not required to purchase an H200 or an L300 to receive therapy. Sanford Health owns several models of both devices and offers inpatient and outpatient therapy using them. Therapists will make recommendations if you might benefit from owning a device to increase wearing time.
