GABR stars

Each year, two kids are chosen to serve as ambassadors for the race. These are the 2014 GABR stars.

Ethan Eckholm
Sophomore
Wing Public School

Ethan Eckholm is a farm boy who loves the NDSU Bison. When he isn’t cheering on his team, he loves writing mystery stories. He gets his inspiration for his tales from reading adventure novels by Clive Cussler. His favorite subjects in school are English, history and art.

The Sanford Health Great American Bike Race (GABR) has provided Ethan’s family with home improvements, such as a ramp on the front of their house and wood laminate flooring. They also received an EasyStand Glider, which is an exercise machine that allows Ethan to stand and stretch his muscles.

This is Ethan’s first year participating in GABR. His family plans to have a team, and they will likely have a green and gold theme.

Kale Keller
Seventh grade
Simle Middle School, Bismarck

Kale Keller is all smiles. He’s very social and loves to strike up a conversation with everyone he meets. Kale is a big fan of the Game Show Network, and especially enjoys Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune. His favorite activity at school is gym class.

Kale received an adapted bicycle thanks to funds raised at the Sanford Health Great American Bike Race. He is even able to bring it to his school and ride it during gym class.

Kale’s family and friends have a team at GABR named “Hale to Kale.” His mom, Linette, said of GABR that “the support of the community is unbelievable.” They are very encouraged by the overwhelming energy in the room on race day.
