Sanford Dermatology offers a wide range of medical and surgical treatments for skin, hair and nail care. As a dermatologist, Richelle Knudson, MD, evaluates, treats and provides consultation for skin conditions, skin disease and skin cancer in patients of all ages. She has a special interest in the treatment of skin cancer, and has completed a fellowship in Dermatologic Surgery, including the highly specialized Mohs micrographic surgery.
The treatment of non-melanoma skin cancer Mohs micrographic surgery involves the precise removal of non-melanoma skin cancer, while preserving the surrounding healthy skin. This procedure is the standard of care for the treatment of the majority of non-melanoma skin cancers involving the head and neck. Mohs micrographic surgery is an in-office procedure involving only local anesthetic. After complete removal of the skin cancer, Dr. Knudson is trained in reconstruction of the defect, usually on the same day of surgery.
Melanoma isn't as common as other types of skin cancer, but it is the most serious. The treatment for melanoma involves surgical removal of the affected skin. Dr. Knudson is trained in the surgical removal of melanoma.
Laser surgery is safe and effective for a number of medical and cosmetic skin conditions, including:
Vascular lesions appear as a red mark on the skin. They are the result of many large blood vessels being located close together just underneath the skin. These lesions can appear anywhere on the body and can differ in shape and size. Laser surgery can diminish or completely remove the red appearance created by vascular lesions.
Laser surgery is able to permanently remove unwanted hair. This procedure is typically performed on the eyebrows, upper lip, chin, neck, underarms, arms, back, chest, bikini line and legs.
The visibility of scars left by acne, previous surgeries or another cause can be greatly reduced through the use of laser surgery and/or excisional surgery.
